After discussion the representatives of the Tramway Company agreed to endeavour to obtain from the Colonial Government of Kong Kong for the China and Japan Telephone Company, Ltd, a concession for telephones in that island.
In the event of its not succeeding in obtaining this concession, the Tramways Company were to contribute £1500:0:0 to assist the Telephone Co to modemise its existing system.
The representatives of the Telephone Co personally agreed to this and the matter is now before the Board of that Company
for formal acceptance.
This arrangement was agreed to by the representatives of the Tramways Company with a view of facilitating business and not because they considered that there was any legal or
even moral: cbligation to assist the Telephone Co in modernising
its system.
At the conference the representatives of the Tramway Company
offered to buy up the Telephone Company at a valuation, modernise
the system and bring it up to date, but this ther representatives
of the Telephone Company would not agree to.
Yours faithfully,
Alfusvietineris
